Cook High School honors outstanding students and staff
Cook High School recognized students and staff members who have excelled. CHS Principal Dr. Joi Williams joined Superintendent of Schools Dr. Tim Dixon and Board of Education Chairman Jeff Taylor in presenting the awards during the Monday, Jan. 23, 2023, regular session of the Cook County Board of Education.
The awards included:
Top Two Highest Reading Growth Measure Assessment Growth for Beginning to Mid Year 2022-2023 School Year: Angel Herring, Ninth Grade; Cameron Givens, Ninth Grade; Acy Dorminy, 10th Grade; Ja’Destine Patterson, 10th Grade; Levi Findley, 11th Grade; and Alexander Gordy, 11th Grade.
Top Two Highest Scores on EOC Tests

Golden Bus Driver Award – Ellar Simmons
Transportation Director Lana Siska joined Dr. Williams in presenting this award.
According to CHS, “this lady always greets the students and adults with a smile. She has such positive relationships with the students who ride her bus daily and provides assistance for them when needed. Mrs. Ellar Simmons deserves this wonderful recognition.”
Golden Daylily Award – Marie Moore
According to CHS, “this lady is one that keeps everyone smiling and is always in such a good mood. She talks to everyone throughout the day as she is working and even dances around to uplift others. She has received multiple nominations on our Staff of the Month form and helps keep our school looking amazing. We love having her in our CHS family.”
