Sheriff Doug Hanks and the Cook County Sheriff’s Office announce the recovery of two golf carts from a residence on Lumby Smith Road reported stolen from Circlestone Country Club.

The Sheriff’s Office was dispatched early Thursday morning, July 10th, 2025, to Circlestone Country Club, 16329 Highway 76, to the report of two golf carts being stolen.

A witness had reported seeing what they believed were the carts parked in front of 169 Lumby Smith Road. Upon arrival at the residence the Sheriff’s Office initially encountered two females and a male juvenile, and positively identified the carts as the ones reported stolen. The females claimed no knowledge of the golf carts, but the juvenile reported that an unidentified male had driven the carts to the residence during the early morning hours and asked for a place to stay.

As the Sheriff’s Office continued their initial investigation, an unknown male ran from the back of the residence and into the wooded area behind the home. The suspect was described as a black male wearing only pajama-type shorts when he fled.

A perimeter was set up by the Sheriff’s Office, and information was transmitted to the public advising of the search for the individual. A canine search team from the Sheriff’s Office began pursuing the individual into the area of the woods where he fled.

The individual shortly returned to the residence and was placed under arrest. During the arrest of the absconder the juvenile on the scene became aggressive and was also detained.

The suspect who ran refused to identify himself at the scene, but was determined to be Brody T. Miles, 18, of Ellabell (Bryan County), Georgia. Miles was transported to the Cook County Jail and charged with Burglary, Second Degree, Theft by Taking, and Obstruction of an Officer.

Further investigation by Sheriffs Office Criminal Investigations determined that Miles was assisted in the theft by the juvenile at the scene. The juvenile was charged via complaint with Burglary Second Degree, Theft by Taking, and Obstruction of an Officer. He was released to his mother at the Sheriff’s Office upon notification to the Department of Juvenile Justice.

The golf carts were returned to the owners. The investigation remains active and anyone who may have additional information is asked to contact the Cook County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff Hanks wishes to thank the citizens for their cooperation, patience, and vigilance during the search.

The Cook County Sheriff’s Office was assisted in this investigation and search by the Cook County Emergency Management Agency and the City of Adel Police Department.
