Mrs. Maxine Carter, 79

Maxine Carter, 79 of Nashville, formerly of Adel passed away Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at Southwell Health & Rehab. She was born January 15, 1944 in Nashville to the late B. C. & Mattie Astles O’Steen. Maxine was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church and had worked at several textile plants as a seamstress for over 30 years. She was an excellent cook, loved playing board games, computer games and enjoyed reading, and watching the Braves games.  She loved her family very much and even cared about her family’s pet dogs, but she wouldn’t admit it. She would be seen sneaking them a snack to eat.

Survivors include her son, Allen (Lucinda) Carter of Nashville; grandchildren, Tyler Carter of Valdosta, and Alyssa Carter of Nashville; one sister, Mattie Jean Griffin of Nashville; and several nieces & nephews. Maxine was preceded in death by her two brothers, Elbert O’Steen, and Bruce O’Steen.

Funeral services were held Friday, December 8, 2023 at Pine Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Tommy Dorman officiating and eulogy done by Donnell Sellers. Interment followed at Empire Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.purvisfh.com. Purvis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
