Mr. William Kemp “Billy” Greene, 81

Mr. William Kemp “Billy” Greene, age 81, of Adel, Georgia passed away on Monday,  September 11, 2023 at Langdale Hospice House in Valdosta, Georgia.  He was born on January 8, 1942 in Valdosta and his parents were the late George Kemp Greene and Bill Wright Greene.  Mr. Greene graduated from Cook High School in 1959 and the University of Georgia.  Upon graduating from college he moved to New York City and went to work with the Palm Beach Clothing Co.  He returned home to Adel in 1980 to help his parents continue the family business, Greene Insurance Agency.  He served as president of the Cook County Chamber of Commerce and The Circlestone Country Club, and served as a Trustee on the Administrative Board of the Adel United Methodist Church.  He was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity at the University of Georgia and a member of the Adel United Methodist Church which is now the Adel Wesleyan Church.  Mr. Greene also served in the United States Army.

Mr. Greene is survived by his wife, Angela Walker Greene of Adel; a son and daughter-in-law, Kemp and Mary Carol Greene of Lakeland, Georgia; a daughter and son-in-law, Jessie and Kevin Wodkowski of Savannah, Georgia; three grandchildren: Blake Wodkowski of Savannah, Jack Greene and Will Greene, both of Lakeland, and two bonus grandchildren: Mary Kate Register and Georgiana “GG” Register, both of Adel; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Pam and Terry Griffin of Valdosta; and numerous cousins also survive.

The funeral service for Mr. Greene was held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, September 14, 2023 at Adel Wesleyan Church with Rev. John Stephens III and Rev. Doug Tolson officiating and Mr. Tom Thomas providing the eulogy.  Interment followed at Woodlawn City Cemetery.  Visitation was held from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM at the church prior to the service.  Blake Wodkowski, Jack Greene, Will Greene, Kevin Wodkowski, Terry Griffin, David Lovett, Mary Kate Register and Georgina “GG” Register served as pallbearers.  “The Old Rugged Cross,” “Amazing  Grace” and “Georgia On My Mind” were played at the service.  Flowers will be accepted or Memorials may be made to the Adel Wesleyan Church, 214 S. Hutchinson Ave.; Adel, Georgia 31620.
