Mr. Bruce Long, 70

Mr. Bruce Long, age 70, of St. Petersburg, Florida, passed away on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at St. Anthony’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida. Mr. Long was born June 1, 1953 in Dothan, Alabama to the late Herbert Bruce Long and Shirley Jean Dragoin Dozier. As he grew up he lived in Dothan, Alabama, Pelham, Georgia and Thomasville, Georgia and then resided in Tallahassee, Florida for many years before moving to St. Petersburg four years ago. He was the retired Director of Investigations for the Florida Board of Bar Examiners and also served in the Army.

Mr. Long is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Christina and Ryan Rackley, and three grandchildren: Caden, Harper and Colton Rackley, all of St. Petersburg, Florida; two brothers, Sonny Long of Austin, Texas and Jim Long of Adel, Georgia; and one sister, Lisa Speed of Liverpool, England.  Several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Beth Stewart and Cathy Stuck.

Memorial Services were held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at Adel Wesleyan Church with the Rev. Doug Tolson officiating and eulogies being given by Christina Rackley and Jim Long. Charlotte Dickerson played “Amazing Grace” on the piano. Visitation was conducted at the church from 11:30 AM until noon prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cook County Educational Foundation (37 Josie Rd.; Adel, Georgia 31620) or to the charity of your choice.
