Mr. James Thomas “Jake” Daughtrey III, 44

James Thomas “Jake” Daughtrey III, a 5th generation farmer, died on March 5, 2023 at the age of 44 in Valdosta, GA where he resided. Jake is a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Valdosta Ga. 

A loving father, Jake is survived by both of his children, Gwendolyn Grace and James Porter Daughtrey. Jake is also survived by his parents, James Thomas Daughtrey, Jr and Marcia Sumner Daughtrey; his sister, Heather Daughtrey; stepmother, Ann Daughtrey; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins, and his best friend Wade Greene. Jake is preceded in death by his grandparents, James Thomas “Buck” and Gwendolyn Allen Daughtrey, and George and Bessie Wood Sumner.

Jake is from Adel, Ga and born on March 17, 1978. He is a graduate of Cook High School class of 95’ where he lettered in baseball and football. He attended Valdosta State University and The University of Georgia where he was a brother to the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. Jake served as the Farm Manager at Valdosta Plant Co. in Adel, GA.

Jake was loved by everyone and enjoyed spending time with his children, family, and friends. His other passion was his love for the Georgia Bulldogs and spending Saturdays in Athens or watching his beloved Dawgs on TV. He had a personality and sense of humor that people gravitated toward and will be missed by many.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Purvis Funeral Home with Rev. Roger Sumner, and Andrew Henderson officiating. The family will be receiving friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. A private family graveside service will be held following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to James T. Daughtrey Ag Memorial Scholarship, County Educational Foundation, 37 Josey Rd., Adel, GA 31620.
