Mrs. Hazel Gandy, age 84, of Sparks, Georgia, passed away February 24, 2023 at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton, Georgia. She was born February 2, 1939 in Berrien County to the late George Franklin Mercer and Linnie Irene Ritch Mercer. Mrs. Gandy lived 57 years in Berkeley, Illinois and the past 8 years in Cook County. She retired from Gandy Service in Berkeley, Illinois where she was the bookkeeper and she was of the Baptist faith.
Mrs. Gandy is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law: Cindy and Louis Domjan of North Las Vegas, Nevada, Pamela and Jimmy Griffin Sr. of Sparks, Brenda Gandy-Rhodes and Rob Rhodes of Sparks; one son, Bruce Gandy of Tifton, Georgia; one grandson and his wife, Jimmy Griffin, Jr. and Cheryl Griffin, and two great-grandsons, Jared Griffin and Colin Griffin, all of St. Charles, Illinois. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Leion E. Gandy; two brothers, Franklin Mercer and James Austin Mercer; two sisters, Myrtle Gandy and Edith Spires; half-sister, Lucille Summerford and her half-brother, Buck Murray.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at the Chapel of Boone Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Parker officiating. Interment will follow at Westview Cemetery in Nashville, Georgia. Jimmy Griffin Sr., Jimmy Griffin Jr., Jared Griffin, Kyle Griffin, Ricky Gandy and Keith Weeks will serve as pallbearers. “Amazing Grace”, “I Call It Home” and “I Can Almost See the Lights of Home” will be played at the service. Visitation was conducted from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at Boone Funeral Home; 1804 S. Hutchinson Ave.; Adel, Georgia.
