Mr. Jeremy “J.J.” Johns, age 45, of Adel, Georgia, passed away on January 2, 2023 at South Georgia Medical Center. He was born on October 31, 1977 in Coffee County to Melvin Johns and Amy Tanner Rogers. Mr. Johns lived most of his life in Atkinson County and the last 13 years in Cook County. He was a member of the Adel Wesleyan Church and was a truckdriver for Victory Drive Away.
He is survived by his wife, Mendi Thomas Johns of Adel; six daughters and two sons-in-law: Hope and Don Murray, Jr. of Pearson, Georgia; Hannah and Brian Lanier of Douglas, Georgia; Isabella Johns and her fiancé Toby Patterson, Kaleigh Thomas, Kiley Thomas and Karaleah Thomas, all of Adel; his father, Melvin Johns of Douglas; his mother, Amy Tanner Rogers of Axson, Georgia; two granddaughters: Elzie Grace Murray of Pearson and Charity Lanier of Douglas; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Lee and Bobbie Johns of Ambrose, Georgia; Shawn and Sandra Tarrant of Waycross, Georgia; brother-in-law, Derek Thomas of Adel; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Marcy Thomas Ray and Dusty Griffin of Nashville, Georgia; bonus parents, David Cowart of Adel and Linda Cowart who preceded Jeremy in death. He is also survived an abundance of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 6, 2023 at the Adel Wesleyan Church with Rev. Larry Bird and Rev. John Stephens III officiating. Interment followed at Woodlawn City Cemetery. Dawson Tarrant, Dustin Tarrant, Toby Patterson, Don Murray Jr., Adam Ray, Cam Coffee, Cleeg Mathews and Tanner Solomon served as active pallbearers; Blake Suggs, Anthony Hodges, Clayton Godwin, Joey Schramm, Eric Postell, Cody Griffin, Noah Harper and Joe Griffin served as honorary pallbearers. Special music presented during the service included “I Can Only Imagine” and “Lead Me Home”. Visitation was conducted from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday, January 5, 2023 at Boone Funeral Home.
