Mrs. Eva Carol Jones Buchanan, 80
Mrs. Eva Carol Jones Buchanan, age 80, passed away Sunday, November 6, 2022, in Tallahassee, Florida.
She was born on May 24, 1942, in Montgomery, Alabama, to her parents, Dixie Nell Jones and James Ramsey Jones. She was retired as an Administrator/Secretary.
Carol loved music. She loved to sing and to write poetry. But most of all, she loved to help other people without any expectation of receiving something in return. To her, the reward was making someone’s life better.
She had a quick wit and keen sense of humor and did not shy away from sharing her frequent and forthright opinions (the “correct” opinions). She was a master at Readers’ Digest Word Power quizzes and often beat the Jeopardy contestants on TV. Playing Scrabble on her iPad was one of her favorite pastimes.
Carol earned her Associate of Arts degree from Judson College, and took courses at Auburn University, Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, and Valdosta State University.
In retirement, she was an avid bird watcher. She loved all songbirds but was especially fond of the Northern Cardinals that came to her window feeder.
While her stroke in 2015 slowed her down a bit physically, she still looked forward to each Sunday when she could visit with all of her church friends.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Gale Buchanan of Adel, Georgia; one son, Brad Buchanan (Kymberly) of Adel, Georgia; one daughter, Judy B. Holmes (Sammy) of Birmingham, Alabama; one brother, James Ramsey Jones, Jr. (Libby) of Mobile, Alabama; three sisters, Janet Jones (Louie Whitehead) of Daphne, Alabama, Cherry Dunn (Roy), of Mobile, Alabama, and Suzy Braswell, of Mobile, Alabama; two grandchildren, Lachlan Buchanan and Stephen Holmes.
While flowers are welcome, memorial donations can be made to the Southeast Georgia Fellowship of Christian Athletes, 1709-A Gornto Road, Valdosta, GA 31601, or online in care of Mr. Bobby Willis at my.fca.org/bobbywillis.
Funeral Services were 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 12, 2022 at Hickory Grove Methodist Church, with burial at Hickory Grove Cemetery. Visitation was 1 hour prior to service at the church.
