Mr. Richard “Ricky” Shackleford, 69

Mr. Richard “Ricky” Shackleford, age 69, of Nashville, Georgia, passed away October 15, 2022 at the Southwell Health and Rehabilitation Center in Adel, Georgia. Mr. Shackleford was born on August 5, 1953 in Madison, Florida, to Henry Clifford Shackleford and Jenelle Burnett Shackleford.  Ricky lived most of his life in Adel, Georgia and his later years in the Atlanta area. He was a retired biologist with Lawn Rangers Co. and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Adel.

Ricky started to college at Georgia Southern. He attended Valdosta State, earning his B.S. degree there. He then went to West Virginia where he earned his Masters degree in Biology. He went to work with the Center for Disease Control right out of college. He worked for the CDC 10 years, removing the corneas of donor eyes. He then changed to work in the control of lime in water and paint. Ricky liked to be outside, so when he was offered a job with the Lawn Rangers Co., he took it, working as a biologist. He worked there several years. He was employed with them when he passed away.

Mr. Shackleford is survived by his mother, Jenelle Burnett Shackleford, a brother and sister-in-law, Daryll and Gail Shackleford, all of Nashville, Georgia; nephews and nieces: Chief Petty Officer Michael Shackleford and his wife, Valerie of Oakley, California and Misty Stover of Chattanooga, Tennessee; and great nieces and nephews: Damien and Mason of Chattanooga and Brooke and Meagan of Valdosta, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his father, Henry Clifford Shackleford.

A graveside service was held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at the Pine Grove Baptist Church in Madison, Florida.  Interment followed. Visitation was held from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, October 18, 2022 at Boone Funeral Home, 1804 S. Hutchinson Ave.; Adel, Georgia.
