Rev. Lawton Watson, 93

Rev. Lawton Watson, age 93, of Adel, Georgia passed away on August 22, 2022 at his residence.  Rev. Watson was born on June 1, 1929 in Cook County to the late Thomas Aaron Watson and Elon Estelle Bennett Watson.  He lived all of his life in Cook County and retired as a supervisor at Aluminum Finishing of Georgia.  Rev. Watson was a member of Community Calvary Holiness Church and was a retired minister after preaching the gospel for over 40 years.

Rev. Watson is survived by his son, Randy Watson of Midway, Georgia, and his daughter, Debra Sheffield of Adel; four grandchildren: Christopher and Elizabeth Sheffield of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, David Sheffield of Adel, Heather and Kurtis Eby of Jesup, Georgia, and Heath Watson of Midway; nine great grandchildren: Kursten and Cody Tyre of Jesup, Morgan Eby of Jesup, Hunter Watson of South Carolina, Sierra Eby of Jesup, Ethan Sheffield of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Joshua Eby of Jesup, Erin Eby of Jesup, Natalie Watson of South Carolina and Noah Eby of Jesup; one sister, Cora Mae Sumner of Sparks, Georgia; and a host of nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Dempsey Watson; his daughter-in-law, Denise Watson; one brother, Bobby Watson and two sisters: Wava Stephens and Lucille Hobby.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at Community Calvary Holiness Church with Rev. Joey Dean, Rev. Vernon Hughes and Rev. Daniel Dean officiating.  Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.  Betty Horne Bullard will play piano, Donnell Sellers will sing “Go Rest High on That Mountain”, the congregation will sing “Where the Milk and Honey Flows” and Vernell Plymel Friar will sing “Just Wait and See” at the service.  Kurtis Eby, Van Sumner, Scotty Hobby, Scott Shealey, Justin Shealey and Dale Hobby will serve as active pallbearers; honorary pallbearers will include James “Buddy” McGill, Jimmy Bullard, Speedle Bullard, Junior Folds, Elton Folds, Junior Bennett and Tim Purvis.  Visitation was held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 at Boone Funeral Home, 1804 S. Hutchinson Ave. in Adel, Georgia.
