Mrs. Madge Wilkes Lawrence, 86
Mrs. Madge Wilkes Lawrence, 86, of Adel, Georgia passed away on July 18, 2022 at her home. She was born on May 3, 1936 to the late John Arlie and Etta Mae McCall Wilkes. Mrs. Lawrence was a longtime member of the Adel United Methodist Church and lived in Cook County most of her life. She was a homemaker and loved to cook delicious meals for her family. Mrs. Lawrence also enjoyed traveling, gardening, bird watching, collecting antiques, watching the Atlanta Braves, and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a devoted member of The National Society of Colonial Dames, Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of the Indian Wars, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Cook County Historical Society, and Cook County Exchange Club.
Mrs. Lawrence is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: Larry and Lisha Lawrence of Adel; two grandsons and their wives: Jared and Melanie Lawrence, Bubba and Jessica Lawrence, all of Adel; six great-grandchildren: Megan, Josie, Jack, Madelyn, Kate, and John Thomas Lawrence, all of Adel; her brother, James Wilkes of Barney, Georgia; her sister, Betty Lou Allred of Culleoka, Tennessee; a host of nieces and nephews; and her special caregivers: Katryna Fussell, Glenda Yates, and Regency Southerncare Hospice.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, Richard T. Lawrence; two brothers: John Rudolph Wilkes and Russell Nathaniel Wilkes; three sisters: Mary Catherine Wilkes, Jeanie Wilkes Johnson, and Dorothy Wilkes Sorrell; and one great-grandchild, Gracie June Lawrence.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 21, 2022 at Adel United Methodist Church with Rev. John Stephens III and Rev. Larry Bird officiating. Interment followed at Woodlawn City Cemetery and Jared Lawrence, Bubba Lawrence, Megan Lawrence, John Thomas Lawrence, Derek Thomas, and Jeremy Johns served as pallbearers. “Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone)” and “I Can Only Imagine” were played at the service. Visitation was held on Wednesday, July 20, 2022 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Boone Funeral Home.
