Larry C. Guy, Sr., 80

Larry C. Guy, Sr. was born January 19, 1942 in Spartanburg, South Carolina to Joseph and Lillie Guy. At the age of 17, he joined the United States Air Force on August 13, 1959. He served with The Mule Skinner Unit in Korea from 1965 to 1966. He also served in Vietnam from 1970 to 1971. After serving 20 and a half years, he retired as MSGT on March 31, 1980.

Mr. Larry married the love of his life, Jo Ann on November 30, 1960 and they celebrated 61 years of marriage together.

Upon his retirement in 1980, he began his second career as a minister of The Church of Christ. He ministered at the Redland Church of Christ, Gonwood Church of Christ, Spartanburg South Carolina Church of Christ, Eastman and Cochran Church of Christ, Monticello Florida Church of Christ, Hahira Church of Christ, and Douglas Church of Christ until declining health forced him to resign in 2002. Mr. Larry and his wife, Jo Ann also served as house parents at Georgia Christian Childrens Home.

Survivors include his wife, Jo Ann Guy of Adel; his children, Karen (Mike) Overturf of North Liberty, Iowa, and Larry Charles Guy, Jr of Adel; grandchildren, Krista (Mitchell) Meadows of Valdosta, and Brianna (Michael) Rahn of Rincon, GA; great grandchildren, Matthew, Hannah, and Jacob Meadows of Valdosta, Silas Rahn of Rincon GA; and a very special nephew, Roger (Cathy) Lawson of Spartanburg, South Carolina. Mr. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph & Lillie Guy; and siblings, Bobby Joe Guy, Robert William Guy, James Harold Guy, Harry Bruce Guy, Betty Jean Lawson, Mabel Clarie Hughes, and Linda Cheryl Gibson.

Graveside services were held Monday, March 7, 2022 at Woodlawn Cemetery Annex with Minister Bill Ward, and Minister Roger Leonard offi ciating. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.purvisfh.com. Purvis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
