Helen Darby Mashburn, 90

Helen Darby Mashburn, 90 of Valdosta, died on Sunday, February 20, 2022 at Langdale Hospice House. Born in Newton, to the late Emory C. & Nina V. Darby, she grew up in Warwick, Hahira and Adel. She graduated from Cook High School in the late 1940’s, she went on to attend South Georgia College in Douglas. She worked for many years as a substance abuse counselor and touched many lives during her career and served as the Director at Turning Point Hospital in Moultrie for more than 20 years. Mrs. Mashburn loved meeting and socializing with people throughout her life. She was a devoted mother and made many sacrifices for her 4 children as they grew up. Later in life she loved to travel, especially with family going to visit other family members, whether in the eastern United States or even Germany. She was a long time and devoted member of Crossroads Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Dawn Mashburn of Valdosta; three sons and two daughters in law, Greg & Sharon Mashburn, of Hahira, Michael Mashburn of Valdosta and David & Pam Mashburn of Auburn, AL; six grandchildren, Ian Mashburn, Spencer Mashburn, Carter Mashburn, Mitchell Mashburn, Aaron Mashburn, and Trevor Mashburn. Also surviving is a brother and sister in law, Roy & Marianne Darby of Adel, and several nieces, great nieces and cousins. She was preceded in death by her daughter in law, Wanda Shiflett Mashburn.

A graveside service will be held for Mrs. Mashburn at 2 pm on Saturday, at Woodlawn Cemetery in Adel. Rev. Bob Willis will officiate. The family will receive friends on Saturday at Martin/McLane Funeral Home in Hahira from 12:30 until 1:30 pm prior to the service.
