Mr. Tim “Doc” Giddens, Sr., 93

Mr. Tim “Doc” Giddens, Sr., 93, of Camilla, Georgia formerly of Adel passed away May 10, 2026 at Magnolia Place in Cairo, Georgia. Mr. Giddens was born September 6, 1932 at Sulfur Springs, Florida to the late Porter Lanier Giddens and the late Emma Mae Moncrief Giddens. He lived in Cook County most of his life before moving to Mitchell County in 2016. Tim served his country honorably during the Korean War on the U.S.S Bremerton battleship. After discharge in 1955, he and Derene made their home in Adel, Ga. He was a member of Gordon Avenue Baptist Church and later joined Salem Primitive Baptist Church.

In addition to being a veteran, he served many years at the Post Office, serving as Postmaster from 1971 to 1989, when he retired. He loved Cook County and served as a county commissioner for two terms. After retirement, he enjoyed farming, deer hunting, but most of all, fishing at their place in Palatka.

Doc was a family man and modeled what a good father and husband should look like. He faithfully carried his children to church so they would hear the gospel and surrender their lives to Jesus. In 2015, he married Barbara Hobbs and eventually moved to Hopeful, GA where he continued to help his son-in-law, Reggie with farming.

Doc was an avid sports fan. In addition of following the grandkids’ sports, he faithfully watched the Georgia Bulldogs and Atlanta Braves. For years, he was a devoted follower of the Cook High Hornets.

Known as “Doc” to most of his friends and family, he loved people, loved to laugh, was very creative and could figure out how to fix anything. His grandson recalled a time when he drilled a hole in a penny to make a washer because washers cost a lot more than a penny.

Everyone who knew Doc loved him and his quick wit! He will be greatly missed!
