Adel woman sentenced to two life sentences without parole for child molestation

Alapaha Judicial Circuit District Attorney Chase L. Studstill has announced that on Wednesday February 14th, 2024, Amelia Spires, age 47, was sentenced to two consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole followed by an additional 69 years in prison. Spires pled guilty to four counts charging her with, among other things, aggravated sexual battery, child molestation, incest and cruelty to children. After Spires entered her plea she was sentenced by Judge Richard L. Perryman who heard argument from both the State and defense regarding the sentencing.     

District Attorney Chase Studstill stated that “Because of the nature of the charges and to protect the victim, we are unable to give out many details in this case.  However, it’s clear that the crimes committed by Spires were disturbing.”  Studstill further noted, “Spires’ actions will have long-lasting implications not only for herself but for those victimized by her heinous acts. I would like to thank law enforcement officers with the Federal Bureau of Investigations, Georgia Bureau of Investigations, and the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, for their hard work, investigation and involvement in this case. I would particularly like to thank everyone in my office involved with this case, and their unwavering fortitude in handling cases such as this.” This case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Rue Smith.
