Crowd celebrates Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

Local residents enjoyed the beautiful weather on Monday evening, Jan. 15, 2024, while celebrating the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The annual march/caravan began at 5 p.m. Monday with an opening prayer led by Pastor David Johnson in front of the Cook County Courthouse.

The group then participated in a march/caravan in vehicles or on foot following a route through the community that ended at Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church on Bay Street. Sheriff Doug Hanks and the Cook County Sheriff’s Office escorted the procession to the church.

This year’s theme was “Living the Dream: It Starts With Me – Spreading Hope, Courage and Unity.”

Concerned Citizens of Cook County and local pastors coordinated the commemoration of Dr. King’s birthday.

The Adel News will have more photos and information from the wonderful event, conducted at Piney Grove Missionary Baptist, in our next issue.
