Municipal election qualifying update
Qualifying was underway this week for candidates who will be running in the Nov. 7, 2023, municipal elections in Adel, Cecil, Lenox, and Sparks, according to the Cook County Board of Elections and Registration.
City of Lenox
Qualifying ended on Thursday, Aug. 24.
Candidates who qualified included:
• Mayor – Henry P. Baker Jr. (Incumbent).
• City Council Post 2 – Billy Mauldin (Incumbent).
• City Council Post 4 – Carolyne Sanders (Incumbent). (She currently serves as Mayor Pro-Tem.)
The incumbents qualified without opposition for new four-year terms, so Lenox will not have to conduct a municipal election this fall. The Mayor and Council Members will be sworn in for new terms in January 2024.
City of Cecil
Qualifying ended at noon today (Friday, Aug. 25). City officials said they don’t have a complete list of candidates and have to clarify some matters. The full list should be available Monday.
Qualifying ends at 4:30 p.m. today in both Adel and Sparks. We will have the lists of candidates once they become available.
