Judges sentence defendants in Superior Court
These criminal cases were resolved recently in Cook County Superior Court.
Chief Superior Court Judge Clayton Tomlinson and Superior Court Judge Richard Perryman presided over the court session and sentenced the defendants. The Alapaha Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office prosecuted the cases.
• In a case brought by the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, Loubenson Sylvestere a.k.a. Orlando Pierre, 35, of Homestead, Fla., pleaded guilty Feb. 1 to possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, reduced from trafficking in methamphetamine – 10 years’ probation, $5,000 fine, 240 hours’ community service work, and barred from Alapaha Judicial Circuit, including Cook County.
Codefendant Steve Richard Thermogene, 33, also of Homestead, Fla., pleaded guilty Feb. 1 to possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, reduced from trafficking – 10 years’ probation, $5,000 fine, 240 hours’ community service work, and barred from Alapaha Judicial Circuit.
The case resulted from a traffic stop for speeding (110 mph in a 70- mph zone) on June 22, 2017, on Interstate 75.
• In a case brought by the Adel Police Department, Jessica Renee Bell, 38, of Adel pleaded under the First Offender Act Feb. 1 to felony theft by taking – 10 years’ probation; pay $2,000 fine and $19,129.61 in restitution to Cook Publishing Co., doing business as Adel News Tribune; and 40 hours’ community service work, suspended so long as defendant is working full-time and paying restitution.
• In a case brought by the Georgia State Patrol, Tifton Post, Martavious Quarte Blassingame, 34, of Lenox pleaded guilty Feb. 1 to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon (possessed a 9 mm firearm, having been convicted of forgery, first degree) – 10 years’ probation, $2,000 fine, 100 hours’ community service work, 30 days in jail (credit for time served), and barred from Alapaha Judicial Circuit, suspended upon strict compliance with probation conditions. Codefendants were Montrevius Dontrell Jackson of Adel (convicted of DUI) and Justin O’Neal Thompson of Adel.
• In a case brought by the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, Kainane Elix Williams, 28, of Moultrie pleaded guilty Feb. 1 to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon (possessed a 9 mm firearm, having been convicted of aggravated battery in Crisp County Superior Court) – 10 years’ probation, $1,600 fine, 120 hours’ community service work, and barred from the Alapaha Judicial Circuit, including Cook County.
• In a case brought by the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, Vijay Jamaree Sanders, 29, of Adel pleaded guilty Feb. 1 to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon – Six years’ probation, $2,500 fine, and 150 hours’ community service work. On Oct. 14, 2021, the defendant was in possession of a 9 mm firearm despite having been convicted of crossing jail guard lines in Cook County Superior Court.
• In a case brought by the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, Albert McLeighton Jr., 48, of Sparks pleaded under the First Offender Act Feb. 1 to cruelty to children, first degree and battery/family violence (accused of striking a girl under the age of 18 in the mouth) – Five years’ probation, $1,000 fine, no violent or disorderly contact with victims, complete Family Violence Intervention Program, and may not possess firearms or ammo for life, per federal law.
• In a case brought by the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, Dina Marie Knowlton, 45, of Adel pleaded guilty Feb. 1 to felony obstruction of an officer and disorderly conduct – Five years’ probation, $1,500 fine, 80 hours’ community service work, 12 months in jail (credit for time served), and continue behavioral health treatment. On June 12, 2021, the defendant swore at deputies and kicked a deputy in the legs and stomach.
• In a case brought by the Georgia State Patrol, Tifton Post, Rainer Thomas Bentulan, 37, of Orlando, Fla., pleaded guilty Feb. 1 to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon (previously convicted of conspiracy to traffic in cocaine) – Five years’ probation, $2,000 fine, 80 hours’ community service work, and barred from Alapaha Judicial Circuit.
• In a case brought by the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, Kayla Christine Joyner, 36, of Adel pleaded under the First Offender Act Feb. 1 to felony theft by taking (stole a 2005 Chevy Tahoe) – Five years’ probation, $2,500 fine, no contact with victim, and barred from Alapaha Judicial Circuit, suspended upon strict compliance with probation conditions. Codefendants are Bruce Edward Kennedy of Adel and Luke Anthony Bailey of Hahira.
• In a case brought by the Georgia State Patrol, Jaquay Tyrique Davis, 23, of Sanford, Fla., pleaded under the First Offender Act Feb. 1 to felony obstruction of an officer, modified from fleeing from or attempting to elude an officer; DUI, reduced to reckless driving; and possession of marijuana (accused of fleeing from a pursuing State Trooper vehicle at speeds up to 125 mph near Sparks on I-75) – Five years’ probation, $1,500 fine, 120 hours’ community service work, and complete Risk Reduction Program.
• In a case brought by Lenox Police, Broderick J. Slaughter, 23, of Stockbridge pleaded under the First Offender Act Feb. 15 to felony obstruction of an officer, modified from fleeing from or attempting to elude, and speeding (124 mph in a 70-mph zone while fleeing from a pursuing police vehicle on I-75) – Five years’ probation, $3,000 fine, 240 hours’ community service work, and complete Defensive Driving Class.
• In a case brought by the Adel Police Department, Charleen Rhoda James, 43, of Adel pleaded under the First Offender Act Feb. 1 to felony theft by shoplifting – Five years’ probation, $500 fine, $527.82 in restitution through probation office to Walmart of Adel, 120 hours’ community service work, and no contact with Walmart.
• In a case brought by the Adel Police Department, Corey Wren Coombs, 37, of Hahira or Valdosta pleaded guilty Feb. 1 to forgery, first degree (two counts) – Five years’ probation, no contact with Adel Truck Plaza, barred from Alapaha Judicial Circuit including Cook County, and pay $200 in restitution. On May 5, 2020, Coombs presented two counterfeit $100 bills at the business.
• In a case brought by the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, Cedric Leonard Bryant pleaded under the First Offender Act Feb. 8 to criminal use of an article with an altered ID mark (9 mm pistol) – Five years’ probation, $1,500 fine, 80 hours’ community service work, and weapons are forfeited to Sheriff’s Office.
• In a case brought by the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, Heather Sapp Davis, 46, of Blackshear pleaded guilty Feb. 15 to hindering apprehension of a criminal – Four years’ probation, $1,500 fine, and no contact with defendant Kenneth Sparks.
• In a case brought by the Sparks Police Department, Ralph Edward Densmore, 70, of Chatsworth, Ga. pleaded guilty Feb. 1 to stalking, reduced from felony aggravated stalking – 12 months’ probation; $1,000 fine; abide by Permanent Protective Order (no contact with victim); and barred from Alapaha Judicial Circuit, including Cook County.
• In a case brought by the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, Amber Nicole Wray, 28, of Sylvester pleaded guilty Feb. 1 to terroristic threats and acts – Five years’ probation, $1,200 fine, 120 hours’ community service work, no contact with victim, and complete anger management.
• In a case brought by the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, Gabriel Elijah Jordan, 19, of Adel or Sparks pleaded under the First Offender Act Feb. 1 to terroristic threats and acts/ family violence and criminal damage to property, second degree – Three years’ probation, $3,000 fine, 180 hours’ community service work, no contact with victim, and complete assessment by Behavioral Health Services and comply with all recommended services.
According to court records, on Oct. 25, 2020, Jordan sent text messages threatening to kill an Adel woman. He also was involved in firing bullets into the victim’s home; the cost of damage exceeded $500. Jordan’s codefendant is Landon S. Trylovich.
• In a case brought by the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, Jessie Lenard Powell, 26, of Hahira pleaded under the First Offender Act Feb. 1 to terroristic threats and acts (threatened to murder man with “an AK- 47”) – Two years’ probation, $1,000 fine, no contact with victim, and complete anger management.
• In a case brought by the Georgia State Patrol, Carlos Alexis Reyes, 25, of Omega pleaded guilty under condition discharge Feb. 15 to possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug-related objects, and driving with wrong class of license – Three years’ probation, $1,000 fine, 20 hours’ community service work.
• In a case brought by Cecil Police, Rachel Jo Harrison, 26, of Hahira pleaded under the First Offender Act Jan. 11 to felony theft by receiving stolen property (stolen tools valued at $5,151) – Three years’ probation, $1,000 fine, and no contact with victim. Codefendant John Michael Evans of Hahira was previously sentenced to 10 years’ probation.
• In a case brought by the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, the State nolle prossed, or dropped, counts of criminal damage to property and obstruction of an officer against Jose Angeles-Escalona, 24, of Adel, in consideration of defendant’s forfeit of $7,900 cash bond for court costs.
• In a case brought by the Adel Police Department, Theo Lewis Hollis, 37, of Quitman pleaded guilty Feb. 15 to hit and run – 12 months’ probation, $1,000 fine, 25 hours’ community service work, 20 days’ jail time (credit for time served), and no contact with victim, Eulie Roberts. The State nolle prossed, or dropped, one count of aggravated assault by motor vehicle.
Codefendant Eulie Roberts of Sparks has been charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, discharge of a gun near a highway or street, pointing a gun at another (Hollis), two counts, driving while license suspended, and simple battery (accused of striking Hollis in the mouth).
• In a case brought by the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, Johnny Derrick Carter, 44, of Adel pleaded guilty Feb. 15 to battery/family violence and cruelty to children, third degree – 24 months’ probation, $1,000 fine for each count, 120 hours’ community service work, serve 21 days’ jail time (credit for time served), complete Family/Domestic Violence Intervention Program, and no violent, abusive, or disorderly contact with victims. The State nolle prossed, or dropped, one count of cruelty to children, first degree.
• In a case brought by the Adel Police Department, Vanessa Latrice McCloud, 50, of Adel pleaded guilty Feb. 1 to simple battery/family violence and possession of marijuana – 12 months’ probation, $1,000 fine, 80 hours’ community service work, no contact with victim, and domestic violence counseling. The State nolle prossed, or dropped, one count of crossing jail guard lines with drugs.
• In a case brought by the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, Killean Vance Thompson, 32, of Adel pleaded guilty Feb. 1 to possession of marijuana – 12 months’ probation (consecutive to Adel Municipal Court case), 40 hours’ community service work, and $1,000 fine. The State nolle prossed, or dropped, one count of crossing jail guard lines with drugs.
• In a case brought by the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, Richard Austin Young, 34, of Adel pleaded under the First Offender Act Feb. 1 to violation of a family violence order, reduced from aggravated stalking – 12 months’ probation, $1,000 fine, 40 hours’ community service work, no violent contact with victim (contact only with waiver), and Family Violence Intervention Program/Domestic Violence counseling.
• In a case brought by the Cook County Sheriff’s Officer, Robert Ray Rowan, 37, of Sparks or Tallahassee, Fla., pleaded guilty Feb. 1 to harassing communications (by telephone) – Five months’ probation, $800 fine, and no violent contact with victim. Aggravated stalking and terroristic threats charges were dropped.
• In a case brought by the Georgia State Patrol, Tifton Post, Christopher Roche, 42, of Atlanta pleaded guilty Feb. 1 to DUI – 12 months’ probation, $1,000 fine, 40 hours’ community service work, one day jail (credit for time served), complete Risk Reduction Program, and surrender driver’s license. Possession of cocaine charge was dropped.
• In a case brought by Lenox Police, Edward Franklin III, 22, of Warner Robins pleaded under the First Offender Act Feb. 1 to fleeing from or attempting to elude an officer (reduced to misdemeanor) – 12 months’ probation, $750 fine; speeding (in excess of 100 mph) – 12 months’ probation, $750 fine; and reckless driving – 12 months’ probation, $500 fine, 80 hours’ community service work.
