Bill Elliott, a developer, has announced that the long-vacant former Fred’s store that he owns in Adel will be renovated for a Dollar General Market, to open soon.
Elliott says the projected opening date for the Dollar General Market in Adel is April 20, 2023.
“At this time, we are currently finalizing our due diligence phase for a new Dollar General in Adel, Georgia that would be located on South Hutchinson Avenue,” according to Dollar General officials. “Based on our current timeline, we anticipate to break ground in the coming weeks.”
Dollar General officials added, “Additionally, our location at 115 N. Elm St. in Adel currently plans to remain open to continue serving Cook County customers.”

The property owner will sealcoat the parking lot, while Dollar General will paint the building and do the interior renovations needed for the new store, Elliott said.
According to Dollar General officials, “Dollar General’s DG Market format offers customers the typical general merchandise expected at a traditional Dollar General location with the addition of a wide assortment of grocery items, including dairy products, fresh meats, perishable items, and fresh produce. The Company’s produce set is a curated assortment of fresh fruits and vegetables including lettuce, tomatoes, onions, apples, strawberries, potatoes, sweet potatoes, lemons, limes, salad mixes, and more. The set offers the top 20 items typically sold in traditional grocery stores and covers approximately 80 percent of produce categories most grocery stores carry.”
Each Dollar General store employs approximately six to 10 employees, depending on the individual needs of the store, the company officials stated. “Anyone interested in joining one of America’s fastest-growing retailers with competitive wages and benefits, world-class training and development and the ability to further their career through our growing organization may apply for available positions online at www.dollargeneral.com/careers.”
A Dollar General Market is also located in Nashville, Ga.
Elliott said the Fred’s building has been closed for three years. He emphasized that the new Dollar General Market will bring new sales tax revenue into the community.
