Cook County Election Returns

With all precincts reporting, Debra Robinson, the Democratic incumbent, won re-election for a four-year term in the District 1 Cook County Board of Commissioners office on Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2022. She prevailed over Independent challenger Brian Harrell by 62.22 percent to 37.78 percent of the vote (504 to 306). This was the only LOCAL contested election on the ballot.

Also on Tuesday, Nov. 8, the referendum for renewal of the 1 percent Cook County Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) passed by 66.26 percent, Yes, to 33.74 percent, No (3,594 votes to 1,830 votes).

Total voter turnout for the Nov. 8 general election was 55.29 percent (out of 10,101 registered voters, 5,585 ballots were cast).

Federal and Statewide Offices

U.S. Senate – Herschel Junior Walker, 71.23 percent, 3,944 votes; Raphael Warnock (Incumbent, Democrat), 27.04 percent, 1,497 votes; Chase Oliver (Libertarian), 1.73 percent, 96 votes. A runoff election for the U.S. Senate seat is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 6.

State Constitutional Offices

Governor – Brian Kemp (Incumbent, Republican), 74.46 percent, 4,138 votes; Stacey Abrams (Democrat), 24.96 percent, 1,387 votes, Shane Hazel (Libertarian), 0.58 percent, 32 votes. Gov. Kemp won reelection statewide.

Lieutenant Governor: Burt Jones (Republican), 73.35 percent, 4,024 votes; Charlie Bailey (Democrat), 25.05 percent, 1,374 votes; Ryan Graham (Libertarian), 1.60 percent, 88 votes.

Secretary of State – Brad Raffensperger (Independent, Republican), 72.90 percent, 3,994 votes; Bee Nguyen (Democrat), 24.15 percent, 1,323 votes; Ted Metz (Libertarian), 2.96 percent, 162 votes.

Attorney General – Chris Carr (Incumbent, Republican), 73.22 percent, 4,035 votes; Jennifer “Jen” Jordan (Democrat), 25.49 percent, 1,405 votes; Martin Cowen (Libertarian), 1.29 percent, 71 votes.

Commissioner of Agriculture – Tyler Harper (Republican), 73.72 percent, 4,068 votes; Nakita Hemingway (Democrat), 24.65 percent, 1,360 votes; David Raudabaugh (Libertarian), 1.63 percent, 90 votes. 

Commissioner of Insurance – John King (Incumbent, Republican), 74.42 percent, 4,087 votes; Janice Laws Robinson (Democrat), 25.58 percent, 1,405 votes.

State School Superintendent – Richard Woods (Incumbent, Republican), 74.70 percent, 4,116 votes; Alisha Thomas (Democrat), 25.30 percent, 1,394.

Commissioner of Labor – Bruce Thompson (Republican), 73.45 percent, 4,047 votes; William “Will” Boddie Jr. (Democrat), 25.08 percent, 1,382 votes; Emily Anderson (Libertarian), 1.47 percent, 81 votes.

U.S. House of Representatives (District 8) – Austin Scott (Incumbent, Republican), 75.25 percent, 4,147 votes; Darrius Butler (Democrat), 24.75 percent, 1,364 votes.

State District Offices

State Senate – Dean Burke (Incumbent, Republican), 100 percent, 4,747 votes.

State House of Representatives District 170 – Penny Houston (Incumbent, Republican), 100 percent, 2,293 votes.

State House of Representatives, District 172 – Sam Watson (Incumbent, Republican), 100 percent, 2,424 votes.

Judicial

District Attorney, Alapaha Judicial Circuit – Chase Studstill (Incumbent, Republican), 100 percent, 4,743 votes.

Constitutional Amendment #1 – Yes, 88.36 votes, 4,758 votes; No, 11.64 percent, 627 votes.

Constitutional Amendment #2 – Yes, 90.99 percent, 4,936 votes; No, 9.01 percent, 489 votes.

Statewide Referendum A – Yes, 63.07 percent, 3,378 votes; No, 36.93 percent, 1,978 votes.

County Board of Education, District 5 (Uncontested) – Chad Sumner (Incumbent, Republican), 100 percent, 1,242 votes.
