The Adel-Cook County Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting ceremony for Gunny’s Ale House on Friday afternoon, Nov. 4, 2022, during their “soft opening” and menu sampling.
Andrell Durden, the business owner, and staff were practicing for this weekend’s big event. Please join Gunny’s Ale House from 11 a.m. to midnight on Saturday, Nov. 12, for their highly anticipated grand opening. Come on out and enjoy some good food, music, and vibe. Karaoke is a must. They are located at 1221 W. Fourth St., Suite 22, Adel, near I-75 Exit 39 in the King Frog Plaza.
Gunny’s Ale House is a veteran-owned business. Durden served 20 years, three months, and 13 days in the United States Marine Corps before retiring in 2015 with the rank of E-7 (Gunnery Sergeant). Thus, the business name, “Gunny’s Ale House.”
The business is a full service restaurant offering Hawaiian and New Orleans style food (as served in two of Durden’s favorite duty stations) and a high end sports bar, with a professional bartender. Gunny’s employs 30 staff members.
Gunny’s was the location of the iconic King Frog Restaurant many years ago and was recently renovated for Durden’s establishment. The walls display photos and mementoes from his and his family members’ military service, as well as from his wrestling achievements (he was high school wrestling state champion from Cook High School in the 119-pound category in 1989). He said each photo has a special story connected with it.
Durden would like customers to bring in photos of their family members that served in the military to place in a special display on the restaurant’s wall.
Gunny’s offers an entertainment stage, VIP section, and pool tables.
