Man allegedly pours gasoline on woman

Robert Christain Thomas Stookey

Robert Christain Thomas Stookey, 44, 145 Roberts Road, Hahira, was arrested Aug. 3 and charged with aggravated assault/felony, according to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office.

According to a warrant taken in the case, at about 9:20 p.m. Aug. 2 at the Roberts Road address, Stookey assaulted his sister who lives in the same residence by pouring gasoline on her, “which when used offensively against a person, is likely to or actually does result in serious bodily injury.”

On Aug. 4, Cook County Magistrate Judge Ronnie Fender denied bond (pretrial release) for Stookey. According to the judge’s order, “the accused poses a significant threat or danger to people and property in the community,” “the accused poses a significant risk of committing a felony pending trial,” and “the accused poses a significant risk of intimidating witnesses or otherwise obstructing the administration of justice.” The judge’s order further states that Stookey was already on probation for two counts of aggravated stalking. Stookey may still seek bond in a hearing before a Superior Court judge.

According to information reported during the first appearance/bond hearing in Magistrate Court, Stookey has completed school through the 12th grade and has not been employed. He has requested a court-appointed defense attorney.
