Mr. Berry A. Carter, 82, of Lenox, Georgia passed away  at the Rehabilitation Center of South Georgia in Tifton, on December 25, 2019.  He was born December 22, 1937 in Axson, Georgia to the late Berry Hamilton Carter and Mary Lee Douglas Carter.  He has lived in Leesburg and Adel and for the last several years in Tift County.  Mr. Carter worked with the Lee County and Cook County Road Departments as the superintendent.  He was a member of the Zion Hope Baptist Church in Tifton.

Mr. Carter is survived by his wife of 45 years, Florence Frazier Carter of Lenox; a son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Julie Carter of Morven, Georgia; a daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Mickey Fletcher of Douglas, Georgia; step-son and daughter-in-law, Lesley and Jane Kinchen of Athens, Georgia; step-daughter and son-in-law, Leisa and Richard Dean of Climax, Georgia; grandchildren: Matt and Lacey Carter of Barney, Georgia; Lacey and Michael Reese of McDonough, Georgia; Mandy and Jesse McMillan of Enigma, Georgia; Joshua Fletcher of Youngsville, North Carolina; step-grandchildren: Ric and Dia Dean of Cordele, Georgia; Carrie and Aaron Peralta of Climax, Georgia; Carla and Michael Sanford of  Belgrade, Montana; Heather and Joel Prathers, Suzanne and Brian Kilgore all of Glen Allen, Virginia; Casey and Tina Kinchen of Athens, Georgia; Ashley and Anna Beth Kinchen of Bainbridge, Georgia; Cody and Jessica Kinchen of Atlanta; 8 great grandchildren and 17 step-great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Forrest and Alice Carter of Dawson, Georgia; sister-in-law, LaReeta Carter of Homerville, Georgia.  He was preceded in death by his step-daughter, Greta Kinchen and one brother, James Carroll Carter.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, December 27, 2019 at the First Baptist Church of Adel with Rev. Johnny Hendley officiating. Interment followed at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Adel. Visitation was held at the church one hour prior to the service. Sheila Humber played piano; Craig Nelms sang “Beulah Land” and “Amazing Grace.”  Matt Carter, Joshua Fletcher, Ric Dean, Jesse McMillan, Jim Carter and Jody Greene served as active pallbearers; Fred Douglas, D.A. Douglas, Robert McLendon and Henry Vickers served as honorary pallbearers.
